Slicker brushes will break the delicate Yorkie coat. You need a good quality pin brush, one made especially for single coated dogs like Yorkies who have hair rather than fur. If the one you have pulls, it probably has balls on the tips.

You will have to buy a good pin brush online. You can't find them in pet stores. My favorite (and I've tried them all!) is the Madan:
