My laundry room is in my garage, but I just fold the used pads in fourths with the soiled side in and stack them next to the washer until I have enough for a load. (3 to five pads). I don't spend my days in the garage, but I have never noticed a smell that way. I think the waterproof backing holds the smell in. Of course when you open them up to wash them if they have been there awhile you can smell them, but while they are folded up I don't notice a smell. Just my experience.
