Default Ears

When they are teething, it is not unusual for the ears to be floppy - this should stop by 6 months.

Under a year is the best time to tape a yorkie's ears. After that, it is iffy (really, under 6 months is best).

If you are really worried about the ears standing, you can tape them even if they are standing up, just to make sure they will continue to stand. However, keep in mind that there are risks in taping (irritation, ear infection, reaction to the tape or adhesive, taping too tight and cutting off circulation to the ears, damaging the hair, etc).

If they are standing up, I'd leave it alone. : ) My suggestion is to keep the hair on the ears shaved and trimmed for at least the first 8 months to a year, just to keep the extra weight off of them. That should be enough to keep them standing up.
