Patience and repetition seem to be best for me. I use potty pads and I put him on the pad after every nap or play time and say, "potty". He seems to be getting the hang of it. But it is going to take awhile before he has it perfected. If he is eating the litter I definitely would get rid of it. Not good for them to eat. Check Dr. Fosters website, I do believe they have potty trays especially for dogs potty pads. The more time you spend training your puppy now, the less time you will spend "re-training" him later.
