I agree with Lauren. Here's how: Take a treat and hold it down - the dog will look at the treat - but don't give it up. Then say his/her name -you're looking for a quick glance your way. The split second you see the glance then say "yes" or some other key word - then release the treat.

The dog will associate his name with the treat.
