I think that having a routine is helpful for your dog- if you just ignore them as the article says- they may not know if you have left or are just in another room and could spend the afternoon looking for you- causing anxiety.

Layla has a routine before I leave- i put down a blanket on the stairs (where she hangs out) that only goes down when I am leaving- i tell her to come give me a kiss which gets her on the blanket- i tell her i love her and that "mommy will be right back"- i usually say that phrase a few times- this way she knows I am leaving and like every other time- i do come back

Many people fill up a Kong with something speical- only for when they leave- whatever your routine is i think that having one that you stick to is VERY improtant for your dog to put the pieces together and figure out that you are going to leave but you are going to come back.
