I'm getting my baby this weekend and I do not want them to stick anymore needles then they have to. I live in the city so we don't have a lot of wild animals. The craziest ones I have to say are squirrels. haha. But other then that nothing else. Shes going to be in my house pretty much all day. So does anybody know what shots our puppies HAVE TO HAVE and the ones they can LIVE WITHOUT?
Anybody who knows anything . . .it would be greatly appreciated if you share. Because US newbies do not have a clue |
Dr. Dodds's vaccine protocol has been adopted by a lot of the vet schools and is a good one to follow:
W Jean Dodds Vaccine Protocol VACCINATION PROTOCOLS
If you do live in an area where lepto is a problem, never give the lepto vaccine in a combo shot. Fort Dodge makes a single lepto vaccine (call Revival Pet) that you can purchase for a few dollars and have your vet administer. Make sure you space it at least 2-3 weeks from any other vaccines and pretreat your dog with Benedryl.
Remember, it is unlikely your dog will have a reaction to the shot the first time. It is the first shot that causes the body to build up antibodies that trigger the allergic reaction. It is usually the second or even third shot that causes the reaction so don't assume if he didn't have a reaction to the first vaccination, it is safe to give a booster.
