So funny- I thought it was the standard custom to use your maiden name as your middle name after marriage as a way to keep and honor your family name. I had no idea it was a southern thing.

I actually dropped my maiden name because it was my brother's father's name (he adopted me) and meant nothing to me. I hadn't even seen him since I was a child so I was happy to get rid of it.
Anyway, I would consider what your maiden name means to you. Do you feel like it is a part of your identity or is keeping your own family name important to you? If not, then drop it, otherwise drop your middle name. Of course you could also hyphenate but that always seems complicated to me.
