There are a couple that I would recommend. Ulead makes some very nice video editing software, it is very user friendly, and they have basic versions up to advanced.

Here is one, lots of bang for the buck, and similar interface to Windows Movie Maker:

VideoStudio X2 - Video Editing

Sony also has some nice basic video editors that do all you are asking:
the learning curve is a little steeper on Sony, not quite as intuitive, but a veeeery good editor
