Like hugz4all4 said, it's pretty much just a ponytail on the top of their head. You can get small grooming rubberbands, or small scrunchies to put it up in. If it's really not long enough to make a ponytail you can also get barrets to use until then. If you use the scrunchies or barrets, just be sure to supervise him until he's use to them and will leave them alone.
And the topknot gel works fabulously!!
