[Teiya]

I've officially had Teiya a week now. We went to the vet today and we had quite a talk about her and some concerns that I have.

She weighs just 3lbs, 7 oz. VERY underweight. She should be between 4 and 5 lbs. However, she won't eat much kibble. She'll gobble down wet food in seconds, but the kibble gets picked at. For the first few days, I wasn't offering her anything wet, however, when I saw she wasn't eating enough, I had to get something in her, so I bought a case of Nutro Max puppy formula and started giving her that in addition to her Solid Gold.

Nothing can be done for her until we get her weight up. So in the meantime, we're increasing her canned food and just letting her continue picking at her kibble. Today, she got her bordetella, rabies and distemper shots, presurgical bloodwork and we're checking her liver, a heartworm test, fecal exam and a years supply of Interceptor. She'll be seen again for her weight in a month.

Her breath is nasty. I love her to pieces but I have to turn my head on the doggie kisses. I figured her teeth needed cleaned, so we discussed that and will set an appointment after her recheck. Turns out, Teiya still has 2 baby teeth that never fell out as well as quite a bit of tarter. She's 1 1/2 now. They should have been extracted LONG ago. It could be another reason she's not eating kibble. I'm cursing the breeder, but at least she'll be well taken care of now.

I've decided to spay her. I have no intention of breeding, so there's no reason not to and a million reasons why I should. Again, we can't do that until I get some meat on her bones. We're also going to microchip her while she's under anesthesia. I've decided (even though it's more costly) to go with the laser surgery and better pain management.
