My Maltese, Nash, was afraid of our stairs at our last house: the treads were not enclosed, just wood planks set on risers at the outside of the planks. He could see through the stairs and they terrified him. In this house the stairs are fully enclosed and tiled and he races up and down them. Is there anything about those stairs, physically, that could be frightening him?
Have you tried putting a treat about three steps up and just leaving him to get it himself? We discovered tonight that Puddin' is wild about peanut butter (Hubby is calling her the Peanut Butter Bandit!) and if the stairs become a problem, I can see myself putting treats with peanut butter on them every three steps or so to lure her up.
Good luck! I hope you find something that works! |
