I use the tray from Petsmart to place the disposable pads in, and I also use washable one just directly on the floor. At first we were just placing the disposable ones directly on the floor when we first got Buddy, and then as we gradually decreased his pee area (we started placing several pads on the floor to cover a larger area), we started to use the tray, and it worked without a hitch. Now we only have the 1 pee pad in the tray. Good luck with the potty training!
