I always wanted a parakeet while growing up, but never had one. We did have two cockateils and two different times and then my parents had a cockatoo for years. I definitely like the bigger birds better as they of course are just more fun and able to do so much more. Unfortunately, the bigger the bird, the louder the noise they can make. I swear, when he was screaming you could hear him at the end of their long gravel driveway and that was with all of the windows and doors closed! On the flip side, he was by far the sweetest bird I have ever known. He wasn't much of a talker (only said Hello), but all you had to do was stick your hand in his cage and he would rub his head against it to save you the hassle of actually petting him.
Oh, and don't mind the post by Culinary Pro there......that's my hubby.......and he's all talk when it comes to animals. He wasn't much of an animal person when I met him, but by the time I was done with him he was glued to Animal Planet and spouting off a list of pets he wants to have one day, which include an African Grey and a Monkey of all things!
