i recently called to find out how to take my yorkie inflight.
i thought he would be considered my "carry on". but NO! they charge extra for it. they also may not allow you your pet if a certain number of people have theirs. (for delta it was 2)

for small pets the carrier:
must fit under seat
i think but don't quite recall they must be in a hardsided carrier.
has to be leakproof

if the animal is inflight i believe you can just call reservations and let them know. but since we had one yorkie and one lab, i had to call eeeeeveryone...

most of the flight approved carriers are labeled as such. my only advice is to buy from somewhere you can return the product (unlike much of ebay) if you are unsure of the requirements.
