I was in a pet store and a lady asked me for advice, since I was in the cat section. She asked if my cats chewed on anything and I was taken aback because I didn't think cats did this stuff!
Her cat chewed on everything and would eat anything, rubber bands, toilet paper, paper clips.
I didn't have any advice for her but she said her vet suggested a kong like toy where you can put treats in, to distract the cat. There were some like chew type things for cats in the cat area. Next to the hairball stuff and shampoos etc.
So, I suppose I would suggest distracting your cat with some other items, like bully sticks. My cat's always trying to chew Mahinas.
Or like Nancy said, you could try the bitter apple spray... or a citrus spray, as cats don't like the smell of it, to keep him/her away from stuff.
