This is exactly correct. No Yorkie should be left alone as the time for whelping draws near. My experience has been that she WILL need your assistance. Even with a problem-free whelp, you will need to tear the sacs and cut the cords. With my first litter, I was unable to get out of work (a whole 'nother story) so I took my girl to my vet's for the day. She wasn't happy but she was safe. They absolutely should not be left alone.
