I'm sure it's different with each provider. We have had DirectTV since it first came out. When TIVO came out we purchased a TIVO DVR and had the service through them. At first it was $9.95 a month but then increased to $14.95. Then DirectTV offered it and you needed to have a receiver with DVR and they only charge $4.95 a month regardless of how many receivers you have it on. One way or another you have to pay for the TIVO service whether it's billed separately or as a package deal with your provider.
