Hopefully the vomiting got the gum out of his system before any xylitol was absorbed. I read that symptoms can show up as early as 30 minutes to 12 hours later if a small amount is consumed. Watch for signs of hypoglycemia (lethargy, white gums, shaking, staggering, cool temperature, seizures). It usually takes more to damage the liver so you're probably okay, espeically if you aren't seeing hypoglycemia symptoms.
