I very much prefer long hair for yorkies, but I can understand people keeping the hair short if they can't keep up with the grooming. One of my yorkies has a coarser coat and it doesn't grow well so hers is a medium length, but my other has a soft coat and I've been growing his hair out since I got him a year and a half ago.
