We have thrown around the thoughts of getting "puupy cuts" for awhile. Fortunately my hubby helps with Shelby & Seymour's daily grooming so it is easier with 2 people. So for now Shelbs & Sey will keep their long locks.
As chachi says, it depends on the genetics..... and also a good healthy diet. Some Yorkies have a cottony coat which can be a bit more difficult to groom and keep long (like Shelby). We also have some favorite grooming products that I think help. Chris Christensen has some wonderful brushes and combs that are very gentle, but work well. Good Luck.... whatever works best for you!!! ..... there are some ADORABLE puppy cuts out there!!
