I am unaware of allergies causeing anal gland problems. Not saying it's not possible, just that I've never heard of it.

I DO know that good solid poo will normally self-express the glands. Canned food, or the soft type kibbles don't have the "right stuff". When I was (much) younger, my dogs ate canned food - and they had problems. Ever since, I've fed my dogs kibble ... and they haven't had any problems. Now, that's a GOOD kibble product, not the kind with a lot of corn or other ingredients that don't allow a good poo.
