Those are used for maintenance. Something else has to be used before the vet can intubate to hold the airway open. They can mask them down and then intubate so only Iso or Sevo are used but then a lot of vets don't really go for the practice, the animal isn't relaxed and more of the Iso or Sevo may have to be given. It is best to mask down in some cases though and that is what is done for Ellie because of her liver.
