Default One Year Old New To Home - Need Advice

Just brought home Carson 6 days ago, he was really outgoing at the breeder. That was the reason for picking him - the other little guy was way to shy and hid behind the desk. However, I feel like he doesn't want to be here with us - we have him in a pen and take him out on the couch or in our arms (trying to potty train him). Can't get him to play, have lots of toys. When we go for a walk he will stop in his tracks when he sees a person. He freaks out when a car drives by. Doesn't want to run up to people or pets and meet them. Nothing like what we experienced at the breeder.

Our last dog Oscar was similar and I don't want another anxiety filled boy - that broke my heart. He didn’t want to be with anyone but me.

At the breeder he was with all the other dogs, playing around in one room. He was handled a lot (at least I think), because they were hoping to have him as a show dog. However, he was in NY a couple of weeks ago and came in last every time – so she decided to send him to a people home. I know this is new to him being around humans and not dogs.

I really need some help on how to get him to socialize and feel comfortable. As well get along with other dogs, my last one didn’t like any dogs and would hide behind me when we came across another dog.

He is especially lethargic today and he had his rabies shot yesterday – could that make him tired today?

Please help! I don’t want another I told you so from my family – as they wanted me to get puppy.
