If it is confirmed that a pup has a liver shunt, that pup needs to see a specialist ASAP and surgery should be preformed to close the shunt. The pup can live a long and healthy life with the corrective surgery.

By doing nothing, the pup will suffer and could possibly die. This is serious, especially if seizures are happening all the time.

A pup with a known liver shunt needs to eat special Rx food (from the Vet). The pup should eat about 6 small meals of the Rx food daily. Treats of apple bits and watermelon and romaine lettuce can be given in moderation, BUT NOTHING ELSE. The WRONG food does trigger seizures.

A pup with a liver shunt and a pup that is having seizures needs to be on medications from the Vet as well, also should be given Lactulose (from the Vet) to help the body rid of toxins that the liver is unable to filter.

Please tell us more????
