I might be attending graduate school in England for a year and planned on bringing Chase with me. However, the policies for pets traveling to the UK are extremely strict. They did lift the quarantine requirement,
but he won't be able to fly in cabin and must be placed in cargo. See the long list of other requirements below:
1. European Microchip- at least 6 months prior to travel. It must be done BEFORE rabies vaccine. Documentation for microchip.
2. Rabies Vaccine- at least 6 months prior to travel. It must be done after microchipping. Documentation for rabies vaccine.
3. Bloodwork- at least 6 months prior to travel. It must be done after microchipping and rabies vaccine. Your vet must send bloodwork to a UK Pet Travel Scheme approved lab. Documentation of bloodwork results.
4. Official PETS Certification- at least 6 months prior to travel. It can be obatained after dog passes bloodwork test.
5.Tick and Tapeworm Treatment and Certification- 24 to 48 hours before pet boards plane. A vet must give tick and tapeworm treatment. Documentation for treatment.
6. Must fly UK approved air route, have an official seal on dog's carrier (if the seal is tampered with during flight, pet will be placed in quarantine), declaration of residence, and customs paperwork.
Failure to have proper documentation on any of these points will result in quarantine for your pet.
What do you think? It would break my heart to leave him with my parents or boyfriend (they absolutely adore him and vice versa), but I would hate to see Chase end up in quarantine should anything go wrong!
Has anyone traveled with their Yorkie to England? Maybe I'm thinking it's harder than it really is?
