oh yea ,they know when something is wrong. If I am upset he will sit right by me, of course he is by me all the time anyways..LOL.. But we went hiking once and I fell and I sprained my ankle and wasn't able to get up for over 5 minutes. He came back and sat right beside me. He wouldn't leave my side. I love my boy and he always seems to make me feel so much better.
