I would let Sophie practice going down the stairs by carrying down until the last two or three steps. I would put her on the steps and then call her and praise her as she learned to how to climb down. That took about 3 days - now she is a mad woman and runs in front of me zig zagging down the stairs.

Funny thing is Sophie will only climb down carpeted stairs. Wood stairs, forget it, she looks up at me like "okay I am not doing this... carry me Mom"
