I never leave mine in harness unless we are going out for a walk or leaving home. I would NEVER recommend leaving a harness on one. And I would NEVER EVER recommend a collar on any yorkie. They should be unable to get their mouth around the chest section on a properly fitted harness. That is too bad that happened and I'm sure it frightened both you and your yorkie.
