What I am worried about, as are all reputable, responsible breeders, is the wording on all the legislation being introduced in almost all the states, much of it spurred on by peta and H$. They seem to lump mills, hobby/exhibitor breeders and bybers all in the same boat. They feel that a breeder is a breeder is a breeder. Cut and dried. Most non-breeders do not think of the ramifications if these bills are passed worded the way they are.Non-breeders dont seem to understand what rights will be taken away from the people who are so very passionate about their specific breed. |
I agree with you here, and it's so important to pass good laws that don't shut down quality breeders. So many of us want to pass any law, but some of these laws actually are better for puppy mill breeders than they are for an individual breeder, for example I read something about one bill that said if you had more than 6 dogs, they must be kept in separate facility. This just seems to hurt individual small breeders, and of course has no impact on the puppy mill breeder. Heck, many of our members have 6 dogs, and they aren't even breeders!
I just want to add, I truly believe that the Oprah show caused a lot of regular people to become aware of the problem, and Pennsylvania got the most attention from the show, and the governor has made a great deal of effort to get bills passed in his state, and these things have a domino effect.
