I do use a band
Actually I just put her hair up first, like normal (in a pony tail) and then I add the clip in down a little lower, to hold her bags back and keep them from falling in her face since they are still growing and aren't long enough to put up in the rubber band yet
It works great - LOVE those little claw clips!
