Try not to worry. If you read the whole thread about Toby and his reaction to anesthesia, you'll see that he didn't have pre op bloodwork done and he may have a liver shunt. The liver has to function properly to metabolize the anesthesia. Since you plan on getting pre op bloodwork done, he'll be fine.

What time will your vet do the surgery? Most neuters can come home the same day, but if your vet doesn't do his surgeries until the afternoon, he may keep them overnight as a precaution. If it were me, I would make sure the surgery was scheduled for the morning so he could come home that night.
