What a cutie!!
My experience with dogs is that males take longer to train than females. And some breeds are notoriously difficult to train.
I've never used pads before this puppy...they weren't on the market with my last puppy. But I am finding them remarkable! I have had Puddin' ten days and she is almost 8 weeks old and she is using the pads fairly consistently now.
What I do is watch her for the tell-tale posture...she has one kind of squat for peeing, a different squat for pooing. The minute she assumes the posture I scoop her up, take her to the pad, and say "go potty!" repeatedly until she does. As soon as she starts to go, I praise her lavishly in a high-pitched voice and as soon as she is done, I pick her up and cuddle her and praise her some more. No treats. That's the "big guns" to reinforce the behaviour if praise doesn't work.
She spent the night in the bathroom and when I came in this morning, she had used the pad several times and there were no "bomb sites" on the tile. But she had an accident this afternoon. She's still learning, but for a not-quite-eight-week-old puppy, I think she's doing well.
Perhaps my technique or some adaptation of it will help with your guy? |
