Mine does the exact same thing.. and as she has food available 24/7!! She seems to be doing it less so maybe its just a stage im not sure??>?> but she doesnt just take it to one place... she gets a piece and takes it to the rug in the kitchen then all over my living room floor.. and her food pretty much blends right in with the color of my carpet..So we are constantly stepping on bits of food.. haha sooo i know what your going through .. good luck and hopefully its just a stage!!!!
