I have just started doing the tails and dewclaws myself. Like you after taking them to the vet and seeing what they put them through, I said never again will I take them to the vet when I can do it quicker and a lot less pain for them.
For the dewclaws I used the cuticle scissors and just cut it off and apply the Clotisol.
Also, the first time I did the dewclaws I used Quick Stop. It seemed to take forever to get the bleeding to stop completely. I also tried the liquid Quick Stop with the same results.
So the next litter I used the Clotisol, HUGE difference!! Stopped the bleeding right away plus it dries super fast!!

There was a good video on youtube on removing dewclaws but I can't find it anymore so I am guessing it was removed.
