How do you know if the mom's milk is bad (poisonous acidity, etc..) so you know you need to start hand raising???

I was wondering about the colostrum too....if her milk is "bad", do you think that would be "bad" too or....?? Clearly, this is all new to me, so thank you all SO much for your advice!
