Oh I didn't realize you were a breeder, we have a breeder's forum, and I know this question has been addressed there before, but without many details. I did want to mention that some coats are a mixture of silky/cotton, and generally cotton coats are the fastest growing, and reach floor length easily, while silky coats are slower growing. A true cotton coat can mat so easily even with daily brushing, so yours may be a mix.
