As I'm sure you know yorkies sometimes have trouble with hypoglycemia. Sometimes if they throw up often or aren't eating, it's good to give them a small amount (usually about a pea sized amount) of one of the two just to make sure their sugar doesn't drop. We used to give it to Chip twice a day when he was a baby because he had hypoglycemia problems, but never give it to him unless he's sick then I just give it to him once just to be on the safe side.

NUtri cal is kind of like a paste-ish type thing, but it's brown and stinks, but apparently it tastes good to the dogs. It comes in a tube that looks like toothpaste. You can get it at any pet store in the supplement section. Karo syrup you can buy in a grocery store. I'm not sure what aisle it's in because I don't buy it, but it's in a bottle and I believe it's clear colored.
