I see you said times are tough and you don't have the cash flow for this kind of expensive routing I think you need to be very aware that it is a lot more expensive to whelp and raise a litter than it is to go for check up and spay.
You need to start saving up an emergency fund.
It is not uncommon at all to be out $1,000.00 or more for an emergency CSection.
Start studying too about whelping a litter.
