we have a female lab that will "mark." so i don't think it's a poodle thing. i think it's a "oh, you think you are SooO great do you Mr. Stinky Boy dog? Well, this is MY house and Tree and YaRd and..." She will even go right over where Edgar goes. She has also mounted any male dog we have ever had.
