 Single mom too!
I've had Gracie for about 2 months now. My mom and sister really help out a lot with her so she isn't alone very often. Every once in a while, she has to stay home alone while I go to work. I only live 5 minutes away from my work so I come home at lunch time to check on her. People at work say "can't you leave her home alone?" "why do you have to check on her?" It's not that I HAVE to come home, it's that I WANT to come home. When I'm having a rough day at work, it's so nice to come home and have Gracie thrilled to see me. We'll play for a little while and eat lunch together. It's like therapy for me in the middle of the day.
I think that maybe some people don't understand because they don't have a dog.
