Although we are in a recession, micro economics is a very personal issue. If you are fortunate enough to have a secure job, there is NO reason to cut back (even if you have lost a lot of your savings due to the market's nose dive - unless you're living on a fixed income or approaching retirement), and in fact if you do, you are just adding to the pain of the overall economic conditions. On the other hand, if you are out of work or fear being laid off, then I would suspect that any non-vital purchase is getting scrutinized a lot these days. I just hope that no one who really loves their Yorkie would have to give it up for adoption because they can no longer afford to take care of it. I suspect this would be more of an issue if you need to spend a lot for vet care of some kind. But I know I would buy a lot less toys, or make my own if I felt economically insecure. My guys do seem to love homemade toys made from stretchy fabric like fleece as much as the ones I buy.
