Your story sounds familiar to me! Although I am very fond of dogs, yorkies in particular, my husband is not. Hubby is a mailman. Everyday, he hears dogs bark, bark, bark, bark. He believed that "no animal should be in the house". He was very adamant about dogs.

After 11 years - I finally wore him down and he agreed that I could get a puppy - in indoor puppy. I have to admit that I was worried about the two of them bonding. Hubby went with me to pick out Bailey. Bailey immediately snuggled with him and he immeditely melted. All is good here.
