I live about 20 minutes from Clarence. Yesterday when I woke up, I heard that Clarence schools were closed "due to the plane crash". My heart dropped. I thought when they said it was a small plane, it would be a 4 seater. 50 people died. Living so close to the Buffalo airport, there are planes overhead all the time. After a while, you don't even notice it. It's just unbelievable that it could happen here. Obviously Buffalo is known for getting a lot of snow but we've been lucky so far to not have any catastrophes. We are usually well prepared for weather related problems.
In today's Buffalo News, they have stories about some of the people that died. I went to high school with a guy whose sister was on the plane. One of my coworkers husband's had to go with one of his coworkers (I know confusing) to the "command central" because her husband was on the flight.
I've stood at the Buffalo airport many times waiting for friends or relatives to return. You keep looking at the flight board to see if the flight is on time or has landed. I can't imagine how terrible it is for these families. Yesterday I saw a plane flying overhead and wondered what the people on board thought flying over the crash site.
One thing is for sure, you can't take anything for granted. It's a terrible tragedy and my heart goes out to all the victims and their families.
