With the cost of spaying, you can try calling around a few vet clinics to get a good idea of how much it'll be especially since you'd want to get pre-op bloodwork done to see if surgery's safe for your baby. They generally don't have any issue with giving you a rough estimate. Make sure the anaesthetic they use on your baby will be isoflourine. It is one of the safer options.

I would not recommend Guildford Animal Hospital. He may seem friendly and all and he was recommended to me by another yorkie parent but I regret having gone to him at all (of course, that was after a checkup, bloodwork, and dental surgery which I wouldn't be surprised to find out that he had coached one of his young helpers to do the procedure instead of getting it done properly himself since he IS a "nice" guy).

Rosie's_Momma on YT lives in the Langley area and has recommended her vet to me: Dr. Jim Snyder at Small Creatures Pet Clinic on 88th. I have not had a chance to pay him a visit since I had gotten another recommendation that was closer to home from another member here.

If Richmond isn't too far for you and the Langley one doesn't work out for one reason or another, I would highly recommend Island Veterinary Hospital. I LOVE them. I have nothing bad to say about both of the vets practicing there (they alternate days/shifts). They're located on Westminster Hwy at No.4 Rd. 604.273.3158. They are very reasonably priced for anything you need to have done. After we got our second dental work done by them, our follow up visit a week later was complimentary. As a matter of fact, I had ended up with more than a few "free" consults because of one thing or another. Once you've established a file with them, they do not hesitate to answer your worries over the phone. The doctors themselves call you when it's about more pressing concerns. Some clinics just have their reception do all the contacting and bill you if you want to exchange any word with the vet at all.

As for pet insurance, I couldn't find enough information/reviews about claims from companies we have available to us in Canada, so I opted to just keep a savings account just for her. Of course, she managed to deplete it entirely after her first dentals and by her second a month later, it felt like we only had to pay for the one since she took care of the first 1k herself.
