Your little guy sounds just about right! Mine was a more than a year old before he started to do the adorable Yorkie tongue thing and he still sometimes circles his food dish before eating. He likes to sit on my shoulder to play with his chew toys (he started this as a very little puppy with no prompting from me). He has a little dance he does when he's happy (or when he's just pooped!). They are indeed strange and wonderful little babies!
