Wow, I didnt know that long hair could actually end up hurting the puppies! I am so sorry to hear that you lost your pup that way. That must have been hard to come home to. My girl is due on Mar 7 and I want to get her groomed the week before, guess I will have to say goodbye to her hair on face and head.
But better the hair than the baby. The hair can always grow back.
