| I was told by an ex-breeder/shower that the quick gets longer if you only ever clip your dogs nails instead of wearing them down on a hard surface (like a road). She said the only way to get the vein to retreat back up into the foot is to wear the nails down instead of clipping.
Dont know if it's true or not but something to think about I guess. 
With regard to the Vet cautorising them, well I'm not sure, sorry! I would be worried about it hurting, I mean I know they can put this powder on the nails to stop the blood flow but will the powder also stop it from being painful to walk on? If you think about when you have a nail that is too short it hurts to touch things, doesn't it? I would've thought it'd be the same for a dog.
