Update! So this past Sunday was the big move-in. Gator, the cat, stayed upstairs pretty much the whole time we were moving furniture in and such. Tobey and I are living in the basement room that is finished. There is our room down there and then a storage room. Anyway, I was feeling gross at the end of the day and went upstairs to use one of my roommate's shower (the one without a cat). No sooner had I gotten undressed I hear loud barking coming from the hallway and Bethany (Gator's owner) yelling no! no! I quickly put my clothes back on and ran out to see what was going on. When I asked Bethany what happened, she simply replied, "They met!" Apparently she said they were fighting, although I doubt there was any contact. I think that she was mostly scared about how Gator was acting- hissing and making really weird noises- obviously pissed off. Then Tobey was just barking like a maniac back at her until she ran off under Bethany's bed.
Since then, Gator has barely come out of Bethany's room. Today I carried Tobey upstairs and stood in the doorway to her room where Gator was laying on the bed. Tobey was sniffing the air and shaking in my arms. I think he may actually be scared of her. I walked about 2 feet into the room and Gator turned her head around, saw us, and started hissing. So I really doubt they are going to be friends. I just hope they both eventually realize that the other isn't going anywhere. For now, I think we plan to keep them separated on different floors when all three of us are not home. I hate having to do this because Tobey was used to having run of the house at our old place, but I think until we can trust that they won't get in a fight, it is better to be on the safe side and keep them separated. do you agree?
