Does your bathroom get natural sunlight? I wonder if his circadian rythmns are being thrown off but not seeing the sun enough.
Also, I do hope that Baxter is not locked up ALL day in your bathroom without a break. I don't care how big your bathroom is, unless it has a park and some other dogs in it, it's not going to be a good place for him to spend eight+ hours. I don't know if your husband takes him out during the day? If there's no one, please consider getting a dog walker to come by or put him in doggy daycare a few times per week.
It sounds like maybe he doesn't know how to use pee pads? I would guess that he's holding it all day because he doesn't want to mess inside. Perhaps when you're home, he sees that you're available to take him out.
Also, Victoria Stillwell often recommends only giving dogs ice cubes after a certain point in the evening. That way they can get some liquid as they need it, but can't fill up to bursting. |
